Legacy Boxes - Amanda Kraft Photography - Lancaster, PA

Many of my clients tell me that they don’t have space in their home to hang large wall portraits or perhaps some of the portraits aren’t ones you’d like hanging for your mother-in-law to see.

Legacy Boxes are the perfect alternative for keeping your portraits private, yet accessible. Each box is handcrafted and assembled with beautiful fabrics containing individually matted portraits inside. Legacy Boxes can hold up to 25 - matted prints offering plenty of room to add additional prints or keepsakes.

Imagine starting your legacy box as a high school senior; collecting keepsakes and portraits throughout your post high school/college days as you create new memories as you get engaged, walk down the aisle, and begin your family legacy.

Next time you visit the studio be sure to ask to see my Legacy Box so you can see the handcrafted beauty in these boxes.

Is photo shoot planning stressing you out? - Amanda Kraft Photography - Lancaster, PA

Are you planning an upcoming photo shoot, but the planning feels a tad bit overwhelming? Girl… I feel your pain. I’ll obsess about outfits, hairstyling, and makeup for weeks (also know as… spending countless hours on Pinterest). Only to remind myself that wearing all black makes me feel polished, professional, and confident. And, trusting my hair stylist and makeup artist to make me camera ready. See all the worrying was for nothing.

Easier said than done! Yep, I know. That’s why I’ve created a Photo Shoot Planning Guide to help eliminate the overwhelm with checklists, wardrobe suggestions (and examples), and a list of location & prop ideas.

I’ve taken 16+ years of experience of planning engagement photo shoots on the hottest summer day during a heatwave to working with a client who lost all of her luggage at the airport the day before her engagement portraits. Or working with high school seniors who are sometimes afraid to show their true style or selves in their portraits.

Included is a checklist to help remind you of when to schedule hair and nail appointments, how to arrive to your photo shoot, extra things to back and WHAT NOT TO PACK. And please by all means, download your guide, read it over and let me know if I forgot to add something that saved the day and might be helpful to add!

Catherine | Class of 2019 | Lancaster Pa Senior Portrait Photographer

Catherine is full of personality and style sprinkled with southern charm. She brought so much energy, excitement, and beauty to her photo shoot and to be honest, if we didn’t run out of daylight I am sure I would still be photographing her.

I loved the freedom and creativity she gave me to bring her portraits to life using the alleys and walls around Central Market before moving to Lancaster County Park to photograph during the golden hour. Below are a handful of my favorites from her photo shoot:

Seriously, one of favorite golden hour portraits.

What should I wear?

What should I wear?  Is the most commonly asked question from my clients. As a fashion lover, helping my clients put together outfits for their photo shoot is one of my favorite parts of the process.

I truly believe that your wardrobe should reflect your personality and during your photo shoot isn't the time to attempt styles that aren't you.  Of course, you are welcome to add in a few pieces that might not be something you wear daily, but keep in mind you will want these portraits to stand the test of time and not be dated by your clothing selection.

I suggest bringing 4 to 6 outfits that reflect your personal style and brand (if we are creating personal branding photographs).  Adding blazers, jackets, vests, or scarves can transform your look without having to completely change outfits the same can be said by adding jewelry.

Shoes can also elevate your outfit, but more often than not only a few portraits will show your full body. Most clients are drawn to 3/4 of the body or waist up portraits. That isn't to say if you have a pair of heels or boots that make you happy you can't bring them!  Please do!

This leads me to one final point. I am going to break my rule of bringing outfits that aren't in alignment with your personality.  If you have an amazing cocktail dress, prom dress, homecoming dress, black tie event gown or pageant gown hanging in your closet PLEASE bring it your photo shoot!  This is the perfect opportunity to wear the dress again and have an ultra glamour magazine style portrait.

Still at a complete loss on what to wear... don't worry I have several Fashion Inspire Guides to help you make wardrobe selection a breeze and an ever-growing studio closet you can choose from.  [Should you have any dresses hanging in your closet that you'd like to donate to the studio closet, please let me know]

Allow me to introduce you to my new friend Elizabeth!  We had an absolute blast working together and couldn't have had a better day for her fall high school senior portraits.  Our morning began with hair & makeup at the studio and then ventured to Central Market and County Park for locations we used.

We seriously hit the lighting jackpot during her photo shoot with beautiful morning lighting and the portraits taken in the black & white striped dress with the brown boots are my absolute favorite!

It's not often that I photograph high school senior guys, but I always welcome the challenge.  Mason was a great sport and knew what to expect since I had photographed both of his older sisters during their senior years of high school.

We created a signature album with his photographs and below are a few sample pages.  I can't wait to share the wall collage that we created as well.

Hey, Class of 2019 - I am looking for High School Senior Model Reps!  If you are interested click here to complete the application!

I remember meeting Jillian years ago before her older sister, Morgan's photo shoot.  So, when it came time for Jillian to plan a photo shoot of her own, she knew exactly how to pull together looks to make her photo shoot an absolute success.

A week before Jillian's photo shoot she invited me over to review her wardrobe and accessory choices to make sure we had all of the key pieces.  The locations we used were based around the outfits she chose and along with making sure we had enough time for beautiful lighting.

Mixing between urban (Lititz) and a family friend's private farm with endless possibility and several beautiful fields of wild flowers!

Jillian, I simply adore you!  Your personality and love for life (and bullet journaling) melts my heart!  I am incredibly honored that you allowed me to celebrate this milestone in your life!

Hey Class of 2018... if you haven't scheduled your portraits yet, I still have a handful of fall dates available!  Find Jillian and ask her for a $200 gift voucher to use toward your photo shoot and ordering appointment!

How-to incorporate a musical instrument into your photo shoots - Amanda Kraft Photography - Lancaster, Pa

Much like those who play sports throughout their high school career many fall in love with music and playing an instrument in the band or orchestra.  I'll be the first to admit, some pieces are easier to incorporate into your photo shoot than others, but I am sure we can get creative should you want to add a piano to your collection of photos.

When my client told me she hoped to incorporate her violin into her photo shoot, I wanted to use a location that wouldn't be typical for a violin player.  I chose the top of a parking garage rather than an indoor location.  I love the juxtaposition between a classical musical instrument and gritty feeling of the parking garage.

This was one of my favorite photo shoots and I fell in love with this series of images from the moment the shutter clicked. We did a few additional posed portraits in an alley way and again, love how we approached this series of portraits from a rock n' roll  style by playing off her jeans, leather jacket and heels.

One of the biggest components of your high school career is your involvement in a sport or hobby and let's be honest, your parents also invest a lot of time and energy taking you to practice, cheering from the stands or sidelines or wiping away tears when a tough loss happens.

So it's only fitting to incorporate your love for the game or hobby into your high school senior portraits.  Plus, I love the combo of a glam-ing up your sports look with hair and makeup! During our consultation, we will discuss if you want to incorporate your sport/hobby into your photo shoot and if we need to timing or a specific location plays into how to bring this idea to life.

Not into sports, but you love to read? I've had clients bring a stack of their favorite books to incorporate into their portraits. Maybe you share a love for photography as well and want to incorporate a vintage camera into your photo shoot - the possibilties are endless!

Today, I am sharing another album design from a high school senior portrait photo shoot.  I absolutely love collaborting with my clients to design and create these keepsake products.

When you fall in love with a collection of photographs it can be difficult to decide on how you'd like to display the images.  One of my favorite products to design is an 8x8 Signature Keepsake Album.

Each album contains 20 pages featuring 25 - 30 photographs that showcase your personality and style in a timeless way to be enjoyed for years to come.  Signature Keepsake Albums are professionally printed on matte finish photographic paper and with a canvas style cover. High school seniors who wish to incorporate an interest or sport into their photo shoot love that they can also include those images into their album.

During your in-person reveal session we can put together your selection of favorites and within a few days of your appointment a sample design will be emailed to you for approval - we will collaborate to ensure that your favorite photographs are featured prominetly within the album.
