WHY I LOVE CREATING FASHION INSPIRED SENIOR PORTRAITS?
In the summer of 1999 when I was having my senior portraits taken I was less than stylish! My “favorite” photo features me in jeans, a 3/4 length white t-shirt, full bangs, and butterfly clips! Yep, I said butterfly clips! When building AKP, I always wanted to give my clients an incredible experience that they would never forget - using fashion forward posing, unique and unusual locations, and infused with a ton of personality. So, not the experience I had!
WHO’S ON MY TEAM:
You work with me exclusively! When the day of your photo shoot rolls around, you are working with me. I might have an assistant on hand depending on the needs of the photo shoot, but usually it’s just me! I do have a handful of professional hair stylists & makeup artist I suggest you consider working with, but that’s totally up to you.
Behind the scenes my mom helps with print packaging and my husband is the financial manager & head of tech support. Plus, we have our 6 year old great dane who carries the title office manager, but truthfully, he just sleeps on the job and barks at the FedEx and UPS drivers.
HOW TO BOOK YOUR PHOTO SHOOT
At time of selecting a date you should be prepared to provide payment for your photo shoot experience. This fee is non-refundable and is used to hold your date on the calendar. An electronic portrait agreement and model release will also be sent to you for review with your parents and/or legal guardian. Once a date is on the calendar - it’s time to think about what you plan to wear, where you’d like to be photographed, and if we are incorporating any props into your photo shoot.
***IMPORTANT*** The photo shoot experience fee DOES NOT include prints, products, or digital files!
Can you help me choose a location for my photo shoot? How many locations will be included? Do you have an option for a studio?
Yes, I will gladly help you with location selection. Typically, my clients like to split their photo shoot into two locations - Urban and Park/Field. In order to maximize our time, I suggest picking a primary location with quick access to a park or field. Example) Urban - Central Market / Downtown Lancaster followed by Lancaster County Park - I’ll be honest, brick is brick and fields are fields.
I also have a natural light studio that is perfect for fine art dance portraits and those high school seniors who need a more “traditional” model or actor headshot to submit to their agent.
When should I book my session? Do you require a deposit to book a session?
Every year the booking window starts sooner and sooner. June - August are popular months especially if you are involved in fall sports or activities. During the spring of your Junior year is an ideal time to reserve your photo shoot spot! Yes, a non-refundable fee in order to secure a date. The retainer will be due at the time of booking. In the event you need to cancel your session the retainer is non-refundable.
What time of the day do you shoot? Do you shoot on weekdays or weekends?
There is something called golden hour that photographers are constantly on the quest for. This is typically 2 - 3 hours prior to sunset. Typically, photo shoots are scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening with limited weekend availability. Depending on your choice of location-specific days may be required due to the location hours or high traffic times.
Can I repost or share my images on social media?
Absolutely! We want you to share your experience and images with your friends and family. All we ask is that you tag us in your post.
Do you photograph guys?
Yes! While the majority of bookings are from high school girls, a handful of boys have been photographed by me over the years.
What kind of collections do you offer and what do they include?
I understand that not every client is the same and their photo needs vary. Clients are welcome to choose from collections that range from prints only or collections that include albums, storyboards, and other keepsake products.
Can I have a pet or family member in my some of my pictures?
Yes, pets & family are always welcome! A pet wrangler will be asked to accompany you so we can work with and without your pet. Family is welcome to attend the last 20 - 30 minutes of the photo shoot, however, this does cut into your senior portrait experience.
Are parents allowed at my session?
Absolutely, this is an important day for you, we want anyone special to you to experience it with you.
How many outfits do I bring? Will there be help with styling? Do you have a style-closet?
The style guide should help you bring your outfits to life, but if you are still struggling we can set aside a 30-minute pre-photo shoot consultation one week prior to your photo shoot or you can always send me photos of your outfits for feedback. I have a very limited style closet that I can pull a few looks from if needed.
Do your sessions include makeup & hair styling? I don’t wear makeup, do you require it to book a session with you?
As of January 2020, I made the decision to no longer require the use of my in-house makeup artist & hairstylist, HOWEVER, I have a recommended list of professional freelance and in-salon hairstylists & makeup artists that I work with.
As you look through the portfolio over 90% of the girls have worked with a professional hairstylist and makeup artist to help them become camera-ready. This eliminates you having to stress about having a good hair day or a good makeup day. Remember a professional is there to enhance your beauty, not cake on a ton of makeup that doesn’t let the real you shine through. My only rule: If you plan to wear your hair straight - please, please, please schedule a blowout at your salon on the day of your photoshoot. Fresh at-home flat ironed hair does not photograph well at all and appears lifeless in your photos.
Can I have my photos taken at the beach, our lake house, or a cool destination?
I am a lover of travel myself and am open to the possibility of scheduling a destination photo shoot Travel fees will be added on top of your session fee.
I’d a theme or concept behind my photo shoot instead of “traditional” senior portraits, can we do something different?
ABSOLUTELY! Concept and theme photo shoots are one of my favorite things to dream about! If this is something you’d like to do we need to begin the planning well in advance to determine locations, timing, props, and wardrobe. If this is something you’d like to do, please schedule a phone call with me to share your thoughts and ideas.
Do you only photograph seniors?
Actually, no! I used to be an exclusive high school senior portrait photographer and then many of my high school senior moms (and older siblings) wanted to have their own photoshoot experience. I work will women of all ages, shapes, and sizes in the same way that I work with my high school senior girls (and guys!)
When will I get to see my images?
About three weeks following your photo shoot you will be invited into my home studio for your portrait reveal. At this time, you will view the photographer’s favorites from your photo shoot and design your keepsake products.
Do I drive myself to my session?
Yes, unfortunately, I am not covered to have you ride with me. You will be responsible for your own transportation to your shoot and to each location.
How long does it take to get my keepsake products?
Products typically take 4 weeks to arrive once the design has been approved and submitted for printing. Your order will be hand-inspected by me to make sure they meet my expectations before we hand them over to you. Once all your products are in you will be notified and a pickup time can be scheduled.
